I know that I'll be watching out for him. I live quite a bit east, other side of town, but hopefully he will be found soon and this situation can be resolved ASAP!
  • Mallorean - Monday, June 7, 2010 - link

I'm Praying for his safe return down here in Georgia.
  • araczynski - Monday, June 7, 2010 - link

    :( hope the best.
  • Casper42 - Monday, June 7, 2010 - link

Can I pass along a recommendation?

Change the title of this to something more obvious like "Missing Boy near Portland, Oregon"

Then at the bottom include some links that easily allow your members to post this story to their Facebook, Twitter, etc Social networks.

I have already posted it to my Facebook page and several friends have reposted it.
  • Lord 666 - Monday, June 7, 2010 - link

    Anand,

For the past six years have enjoyed your site, but tonight you just took it to a completely different level. Combining the unique position of viewership volume along with technology to hopefully obtain a positive outcome is admirable. Wish more people in your position would take ths route.

Hopefully with the use of technology and implantable tracking chips for children will eliminate any parent's worst fear.
  • Sooca - Monday, June 7, 2010 - link

    I hope they find him.

Although it is very ironic that he is wearing a CSI T-Shirt in the picture.
  • InternetGeek - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

I hope this kid is found ASAP. My thoughts are with you guys.

Lord 666, I can empathize with parent's distress when a child is lost. I was once lost for an entire night after our building caught fire and in the craziness that ensued I was pulled from my mother's arms. I was lucky a friend of the family found me outside the building and took me into their place. With no cellphones or emails back then, all they could do is put the word out and look for my parents.

But I wouldn't want to chip kids the way you suggest. If things are bad they could only get worse if hackers can get access to a child's location at all times.
  • DrMrLordX - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

The chips are allegedly causing skin cancer in lab rats and mice:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic...

I don't know if there's a rash of skin cancer being caused by these chips in pets, though a number of activists seem to think so. Wouldn't want that to happen in humans.

My heart goes out for the family. I truly hope he is found very soon. It made me proud to see a article like this on anandtech and other tech blogs. Hopefully the help of this community can help and lead to finding Kyron.
  • numberoneoppa - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

    Best wishes.
  • Cullinaire - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

I'm headed to Mult County tomorrow morning. Will keep an eye out for the boy.
  • sapiens74 - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

God bless the family and this precious little boy
  • The_Lorax - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Thank you so much for posting this. We've spread out flyers around the Bethany and Tanasbourne areas but if there are outlets that can get the word out further it's all appreciated. I too work at JF and have a 7 year old and this story is breaking my heart. A fellow employee going thru this somehow hits me even harder.

On a side note SO many Intel employees have so far offered themselves to the effort in finding this little guy it makes me proud to be part of such a special workplace family. I am truly proud of all my coworkers and I know all any of us wants is to find Kyron and bring him home.

For more details you can go to any local Oregon news site but we really need to get his face out there as much as possible and keep folks on the lookout.
  • TIGGAH - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Please keep us updated on this story. I hope they find him soon, safe and sound.
  • tkkidd3 - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

if you going to help out keep this post o the top.

hate to see this post push down.
  • Slappi - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

I have a 7 year old that looks kinda like Kyron and has the exact same stats.

Stuff like this tears my heart out.

I'll be praying for him to be found.

I hope the bastard that took him dies a painful death asap.
  • LoneWolf15 - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Please let the Horman family know they are in our thoughts and prayers. I will be praying for Kyle's safe return.
  • liquidaim - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Not to be insensitive here, but when my little cousin or kid goes missing, can I request help from AT readers as well?

Keep on point. First and foremost this should be a tech site. Not a site for people with connections requesting help.
  • Maiyr - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Not to be insensitive here, but fuck you you piece of shit. I could write 10 pages on why trash like you should be shot on site. I'll not waste my time...

    Maiyr
  • Slappi - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

    Well said!
  • liquidaim - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Since you care so much about this child, how about also looking out for the 44 other missing children in Oregon.

  • SunSamurai - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

Trying to find one kid is better than telling people they should not have this up and should focus on being a tech site.

    You piece of trash.
  • sandpa - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

now you are probably thinking, man ! I messed this up. How could I be so insensitive ? It is obvious I made a huge mistake so let me try to make it about something else. The good thing is most people here will soon forget abt your screw up, the bad thing is for a long long time when you look at the asshole in the mirror it will remind you how fucked up your attitude was. I am willing to bet you don't have kids and when you do you that's when you will truly regret your post.
  • CharonPDX - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Yes, when your kid goes missing, as an Anand member, if you post it in the forums, odds are Anand will put it on the front page. He has put ultra-urgent medical requests on the home page before, too.

Obviously, you don't have kids. I do (I live about five miles South of where this happened, and have a kid in another similar small elementary school in the same school district,) and while I am tiring of the near-constant play this is getting in the local news, I did find it very touching that Anand put it on the home page.

Yes, it may be a bit of overkill, as anyone local has guaranteed heard about it by now (all over every print, audio, and video medium in town; as well as flyers posted all over, including downtown,) but you never know what will help.
  • liquidaim - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

I see what you are saying about the big breaking story of the day. That's just how "news" operates. catering to the lowest common denominator in society.

That is why we need to be made aware of sites like this:
    http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/Pub...

    and fund them long term.

Thank you for a civil response.
  • TIGGAH - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

    Just go away.
  • Etern205 - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

This tells that most of us who visits AT actually has a LIFE and won't be bothered to sit in front of the computer all day just to look at tech news. Now if you can't deal with it and you're having a hissy fit just cause AT is calling out on his fellow followers to lend a helping hand finding the poor child, where in that dick brain of yours that the sole purpose of AT is only for "tech" news and anything else is forbidden. There is one solution you can consider.

    GET THE HELL OUT!
    Fucking FAG!

And I hope for the boy is found and return home safely.
  • liquidaim - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

Please don't let your emotions carry you away.

Also, be on the lookout for the following 44 children in oregon.

    http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/Pub...

It might help if everyone checked that site everyday just as people read anandtech everyday so we can help.
  • SunSamurai - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

    Go fuck yourself.
  • AbRASiON - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

I didn't realise the guy had revealed his sexuality in his post, we'll keep that in mind!
  • Taft12 - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

Now if you can't deal with it and you're having a hissy fit...

    GET THE HELL OUT!

Some very nice irony here, I thank you sir!

I hope he is found as well
  • godel - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

I'm surprised that the kid's written description doesn't include the fact that he wears glasses (as per photo)..
  • JulesMaximus - Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - link

As the father of a 7 year old in 2nd grade I sincerely hope for the best possible outcome for this child and his family.

    They are in my thoughts.

  • chromal - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

Bummer. Hell of a world, etc.

Still, given Ars' international readership, perhaps, next time, an Amber Alert would be more a) productive b) appropriate.
  • Cullinaire - Wednesday, June 9, 2010 - link

This case does not yet meet the criteria for an Amber Alert. For one thing, nobody has any description of who the suspect (if any) is.
Let's hope the AA is not necessary for this case.
  • Taft12 - Thursday, June 10, 2010 - link

Not sure why you think no Amber Alert has taken place here - that is what allows the media to print names and photos of missing minors which is exactly what has happened. They don't have a description of the suspect or license plate but would provide that if they did.
  • Cullinaire - Sunday, June 13, 2010 - link

Like I said, this case doesn't yet meet the requirements for an AA. You're wrong if you think an AA is required to broadcast the info of a minor.
I live around here and if there was an AA issued, I would have seen it.
  • Geekbabe - Thursday, June 10, 2010 - link

I've gotten the word out to my twitter followers .. so sad and scary! :(
  • trae32566 - Friday, June 11, 2010 - link

I feel your pain, had some similar things happen to kids I know. Hope you find him :) I'm sure we'll all be praying
  • ReaM - Thursday, June 17, 2010 - link

    I dont live in US

    They found him?
  • Lord 666 - Saturday, June 19, 2010 - link

No, but the local cops and FBI are FINALLY looking at the step mother as the criminal.

When this first started, looked at her FB page and she was playing stupid games around the same time she said she dropped him off and again around 4 and 5pm. Not to mention the silly updates the next day saying she was going to the gym.

Shortly after, her FB page was taken down.
